Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Feb 28, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the light of a new European if not global orientation which is imposed from the new working conditions, the teachers of the Experimental Junior High School of the University of Crete readjust their skills and seek new methods and tools for teaching in order to upgrade their role and the role of their students through their professional development. This will be achieved by forming a plan of holistic development and organization of their studies which includes not only their personal development but also the reform of their school as an administrative and educational agent. The main goal of this proposal is to fulfill the needs of the participating teachers in issues which are related to modern learning theories, innovative teaching approaches, application of ICT tools in class, experimentation with new teaching methods, administration and management. As a result, the quality of the offered educational program will be upgraded, as well as the teaching in itself in practical terms. The participating 22 teachers have good knowledge of English and are experienced in the use of ICT as well as they hold post graduate degrees. Moreover they all show particular interest in the foreign education systems, the organization and operation of school units, the curricula as well as the various didactic approaches they are going to take part.Within a period of one and a half years the following activities will be realized:1) The program “Innovative Approaches to teaching” organized by the International Training Center in Barcelona in Spain from 15/5/2017until 19/5/20172) Job shadowing in an Italian School in Genova : ISTITUTO SECONDARIO SUPERIORE STATALE “FIRPO – BUONARROTI” for a period of 5-15 days from 15 September to 28-02-20183) Job shadowing in an educational centre in Spain in Almendralejo hosted by Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Almendralejo, for a period of 7 days from 15-09-2016 to 28-02-20184) The program "PISA - Finnish and European education systems" hosted and organized by eduKarjala, Joensuu, Finland from 31/07 to 04/08/2017As far as the organization and the implementation of this proposal is concerned, the Experimental Junior High School will undertake the planning and control of the smooth conduct of the mobility plan. The quality and administrative management of the proposal will be achieved by means of a written agreement among the hosting organizations and the trainee teachers for abiding to the contract terms.Through this educational process teachers, students and the school as an entity become agents of a learning procedure with multiple benefits for the educational community not only in matters of learning outcomes and acquired knowledge but at the same time in attitudes and conduct as an interactive process of self and professional development and active participation in the European context. The impact of the afore mentioned proposal is expected to be particularly positive not only for the participating teachers but for the hosting organizations and the groups they represent. Through the exchange of experiences and knowledge the professional and pedagogical training of both the teachers and the school will be improved substantially. Especially for the experimental school, which acts as a transmitter of good practices, the positive impact of such a plan will have a multiplying effect. It will influence not only the goals and the practices of the school but to the dissemination of these good practices to the broader educational community.Having these in mind, where is the added value of this proposal in the long run? It lies precisely in the everlasting and perpetual process of learning, in the need for discovery of new, alternative and different fields. All these add an experiential and intercultural character in knowledge, which is multifaceted, continuous and undeniable.
