Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods against Early School Drop-out” was based on the high school drop-out rate in the Technical Vocational School of Perama as well as the need for educationalists to apply new teaching techniques in order to increase learner motivation. Consequently, the project aims at reducing the number of learners who drop out of education while updating, from a pedagogical point of view, the Technical School by introducing student-centered practices. The 20 participants are educationalists of various scientific fields who possess high professional qualifications and often take advantage of new technologies ( especially Web 2.0) in the teaching process. It is expected that during their training abroad they will become familiar, via the learning-by-doing, project, "real assignment" methods, with the latest teaching practices on increasing learners' motivation. The project attempts a change in attitude of educationalists from being transmitters to becoming mediators of knowledge, who will involve learners in creative activities. This of course will be of great benefit to the target learners who, on completion of their studies, will have developed better skills and appreciated the value of learning. Thus, they will be better equipped for pursuing their place in the labour market. In view of the above , as a long-term benefit the school will be in line with social needs which in this case involve the reduction of high unemployment rate in the area of Perama (Athens).
