Jóvenes catalanes rurales
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Dec 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Young, rural and Catalan", is a new scheme that aims to bring together young people ranging from 15 to 18 years of age that live in rural areas of the Garrotxa region (Spain) and Aspres in France. Since both these areas are located along the Catalan border and face similar difficulties that stem from the geographic location and the services available in both these regions; dissemination of villages, distances to and from education centres and occupational services, the lack of job opportunities, housing access, etc... In short, most of these difficulties lead to a much later emancipation of their young as well as motivating an exodus to urban areas. The project aims to support and strengthen the links amongst the rural youth of Aspres and la Garrotxa as well as a means to bring them together so that they can liaise and help each other to face the challenges and overcome common problems as a team. By identifying the similarities of both these territories and making joint proposals to revitalise these rural areas, particularly in terms of education and occupation makes a sure safeguard to abandoning the countryside. The youth areas of both local councils of the Consell Comarcal de la Garrotxa (Spain) and Communauté de Communes des Aspres (France), have joined forces in an attempt to organise exchanges amongst the young people within their respective communities. A scheme that combines educational activities based on training and employment access in rural areas which includes (visits to young entrepreneur businesses, discussions with successful young academic members of the community as well as other cultural, sporting and leisure based activities. The proposed scheme is scheduled to last six months and the first exchange case will take place in Olot (Spain), starting 27th July until 1st August 2015. 20 young participants (10 from each assigned area) will be allowed to benefit from this programme of activities and experiences that will encourage them to value and increase their sense of European citizenship as well as forging what will hopefully be the start of a strong cooperation that could pave the way for other public youth services within the European Union.
