Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jan 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

After making a research about the situation of young people with physical disabilities on the labor in Romania and in the partner countries and after our contact with our ex-participants, the idea of the project Journey of ThisAbility was born. The aim of this project is to contribute in the process of decreasing the youth unemployment in the European community. The specific objectives of the project are: to create mobility opportunity for young unemployed people through organizing a 9 days youth exchange, based on non-formal learning and outdoor activities; equip participants with awareness, skills and knowledge, what will contribute to the improvement of their situation on the labor market; Explore the process of project management – from the idea through the realization; Develop self-confidence and trust in own abilities; Contribute to the process of creating social cohesion in the European community; Practice outdoor activities; Create connections between people from other European countries and cultures; Create an inspirational brochure and a short movie from the young people for the young people with disabilities about steps in planning and initiating a project. In the Youth exchange what is the main activity of the project will take part 27 participants, from which 10 young people with physical disabilities and 6 youth leaders. Some of the young people will be accompanied by their personal assistant who will be also participants in the program. The participants of the youth exchange are facing social and economical problems, as they are unemployed. Big part of them are facing educational and communicational difficulties. The youth exchange itself will take place in Sovata, Romania in the Outward Bound Romania Youth Center, from 21st to 30th August, 2014 (9 days). In the youth exchange will be involved young people from the partner countries for the project – Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Slovakia and Romania. The main methodology what will be used to implementing the youth exchange will be non-formal education and experiential learning through outdoor activities. The young people will participate in workshops, discussions, outdoor journey, ropes course, different outdoor activities (energizers, name games, getting to know each other activities), City Bound, will get personal consultancy, national evenings. Through those activities they will built up their confidence, will become more initiative and aware about their own skills and strengths, will become more motivated to search for a job, that is fitting to their interests and needs. The young people will acquire knowledge about project management and how to develop the idea into project and this will be also an additional skill what will be useful for them in the process of finding work. The youth exchange will include young people with disabilities into activities of non-formal education and this will contribute to the open-midness of the young people without disabilities and to the local community’s openness.
