Joint development of cross-border tourism information products by South Baltic oceanographic museums (BalticMuseums 2.0)

With the cross-border co-operation of oceanographic museums and research facilities in SBR the potential of joint development of various, state of the art tourism information products shall be exploited. In the BalticMuseums 2.0 project the partners will develop three information tools: a multi-lingual online information platform (all languages of SBR + English), a multi-lingual ticketing system and a prototype of a highly sophisticated visitor guidance system considering the special museum requirements.The oceanographic museums contribute to the public, environmental consciousness. Since the information shall be accessible to everyone, different target groups are addressed: the public, authorities, economy, other museums - in the SBR languages, representing a large part of the foreign museum visitors. Together with an advisory board and an information group (see ATT 15) a broad contact network will be set up for the project.By working on concrete development projects a personal network of the participants will grow along the way and further co-operation potential will be detected, that shall be turned into formal co-operation agreements. Achievements: In the course of the project implementation a capable network was established for joint creation of cross-border tourism information products. By working on the project a personal network was created too and further co-operation potential was detected. Agreements and measures have been taken to continue this co-operation also after the project’s life time. An Online Information Portal was developed jointly and is available online. With several sophisticated features it attracts tourists due to multi-lingual offer and a broad information basis on the museums and the cities, cross-selling effects between the museums can occur. An Online Ticketing Tool was developed and is in practical use. It makes the museums using it more accessible locally and abroad, hotels and travel agencies can book online which will result in more visitors to the museums and the cities.Prototypes of a Visitor Guidance System – one for outdoor use based on GPS and one for indoor use employing RFID tags – have been developed, which fascinate a broad audience and attracts a larger target group, also in the future. Due to the joint efforts technical solutions have been found and tested to use a quite high amount of different file formats providing information to the users, including animation and small movies. Communication & Dissemination did promote the project and the museums in order to increase the amount of visitor to them. A final conference in Szczecin (PL) in December 2011 did attract more than 110 participants and attracted attention in all participating countries via mass media.During the project life time information groups and advisory boards, assembled from regional experts, did accompany and support the project activities. Being stake holders for tourism and museum issues these persons also did help to disseminate the project outcomes into the various target groups.
