Joint Action for Safeguarding Protected Areas in the Hungary-Romania Cross-border Area (PRO-SAFE)

The project proposes the exchange of experience in the field of control and inspection of protected areas in the two countries. The general objective of the project is to improve the environmental situation of the natural protected areas in the project implementation regions. Specific objectives are linked to improvement of the cooperation between environmental institutions from both sides of the border, improvement of the activity of the staff working at environmental institutions in both countries as well as raising the awareness of local organizations and citizens regarding the natural protected areas.The direct beneficiaries of the project are the staff of the environmental inspection bodies in the border area (the eight counties), as well as from regional and central level - 80 persons in total. These people participated in the joint inspection missions and meetings and made proposals for improving the methodologies and templates used (40 people). Other 40 people were trained on the best practice guidelines. Indirect beneficiaries are the entire population of the project area (over 1 million people), who benefit of a healthier environment on the long term.
