Our grammar school, called Újpesti Könyves Kálmán Gimnázium has always been proud of its traditions since it was established at the beginning of the last century. At the same time we want our school to develop so that it can meet the requirements of the 21st century. We want to enable our students to achieve good results in international competitions and projects. Our ambition harmonizing with these goals is to improve the language competences of the teachers whose postgraduate training in one of the English-speaking countries of the European Union might be beneficial for our school. One of the participants was the teacher of astronomy, who regularly takes part in the preparation for the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. For him a good command of English (which is the most commonly used language in the world) would be essential. The other participant was a biology teacher. She is an experienced examiner at advanced level and has the ambition to teach biology in English one day. Reaching these aims would be a step ahead for the school, as this way our students can achieve greater success in international events and through it increase the school's reputation. The senior teacher (called "leader") has international successes, and a student of the grammar school has already won a bronze medal in the Olympiad. The board of the institution have the intention to continue preparation for and participation in the Olympiad, or even would like to have a more important role in the national preparation and organization of this event. This requires building international relations, so therefore an appropriate level of English for the teacher participating in this programme is essential. The teacher training course facilitates the development of the secondary school as better qualified teachers can teach more effectively at a higher level, namely at the European level. In our age science has a significant role. The information available on the internet is usually in English. So if you do not want to miss something important, want to stay well informed on the latest news of science and pedagogical methods, you should have an appropriate level of English knowledge. In addition, the EU has already spread the C.L.I.L. methodology about teaching subjects in two languages, which means - in this case - teaching biology bilingually. If a school wants to become more international, as expected in the Union, it is time to use new methodology to ensure the conditions for students to study in another country. The two teachers involved in this mobility have the aims of understanding articles in English and interpreting them for the future generations, as well as preparing students for international competitions, with the prospect of achieving good results. These two participating teachers would like to get to know other countries in the Union, their culture and educational system, furthermore they would be pleased to present their culture and educational system to members of other nations. Of course we cannot expect a single course to lead to the achievement of our long-term goals described above. These competences have to be developed, and then it is possible to achieve future targets. The school, and of course the teachers too, are satisfied with the results of the project. Their language skills have improved a lot and they have stepped to a higher level in English both in speaking and writing. During the courses they felt the development of their English, they could read and see English resources which they had not met before their mobility. Now they have the ability of reading science news on the Internet. Thanks to the high quality courses one of the teachers got acquainted with the basic method of C.L.I.L. and she shared the information with her colleagues (too) after the course. The other teacher learnt English in Oxford while he also had professional meetings with other experts. Both participants had opportunities to deepen their international relationships. Because of this the English student Olympiad team of astronomy (and astrophysics) could go to an international pre-Olympiad astronomy preparation meeting in autumn and the Hungarian team could participate in an international project in astronomy (and astrophysics). The acquired new method turned out to be useful for students and their teacher, the other participant was more effective in their lesson preparations and her lessons became more interesting. The participants got to know the educational systems in other EU countries, and they shared their experiences with their colleagues. They spoke about the new trends in education, and the advantages of cooperation. They hope that they can continue this process to achieve further results. They believe that they had a big step forward in their intellectual development.
