Start date: Oct 31, 2010, End date: Oct 30, 2011 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project activities concern north-east area of Hungarian part and south-east area of Slovak borderline part, which belong to administrative unit of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Megye and Košice Self-governing Region (hereinafter KSR), whereby the key activities shall be concentrated on border-line districts. According to analysis of investment environment performed by KSR in 2006, the districts of Trebišov, Košice surroundings and Rožňava belong to the category "stagnant", and other districts as Sobrance and Gelnica fall into category "depression and economically problematic". However, primary and also secondary fields of the development occur in the given regions i.e. areas with proposed industrial parks or other possibilities to develop the business infrastructure. High percentage of unemployed inhabitants is potential personnel to develop the business activities, including cross-border, at which the quality can increase thanks to investments into human resources that could be done within various programs. Likewise, Borso-Abaúj-Zemplén County (hereinafter BAZ County) by its location in the Hungarian territory has the peripheral character, which is manifested mainly in the border-line areas. Only 50% of EU gross-domestic product results from it and it have a significant impact on social-economical situation of population. Presently, the cross-border cooperation is carried out mainly on various levels of the municipal sphere or eventually on formal level in other bureaucratic institutions without deeper knowledge of the problems and necessary experience for resolving actual issues in micro, tiny and small business. The main aim of the project is to ensure refinement and improvement of mutual cooperation between small and mid-size businesses within aggrieved regions on both sides of the border. At the present, the mutual information awareness of the given area is on very low level and is not provided from institutional point of view social and economical. Achievements: The eastern part of the programme is most affected by a high rate of unemployment. Cooperation between municipalities, enterprises and non-governmental organizations is very rare not only at the international level, but in the interregional level as well. The main goal of the project was to create a system of information and coaching services and possibilities for direct and indirect connections that create the basis for integration in the field of business activities. The two way business mobility supported by individual activities like supporting presence at exhibitions or maintaining mutual connections and the development of business and marketing skills are inevitable conditions for strengthening the competitiveness in frontier regions of south-eastern Slovakia and north-eastern Hungary. The main activities of the project were organizing the Hungary-Slovakia Economic Exhibition in Miskolc, the Exhibition of Cross Border Cooperation in Košice and the Hungary-Slovakia Business Contact Days in both countries.
