Jeunes en difficulté, interculturalité et création artistique
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project’s goal is to allow vulnerable youth, who struggle to connect with others and have limited intercultural experience, to discover other ways of life and other socio-economic contexts. Through arts, we would like to mobilize French and Bulgarian youth on a common project, in order to build their self-confidence and make them feel proud and useful. This European youth exchange would give them the opportunity to establish social relations in another context, to widen their horizons and to encourage them to take new initiatives. The group will be composed of 8 French youth and 8 Bulgarian youth. In order to prepare for the project, a planning visit was organized in January 2015. It will be followed by an important planning phase with our youth, with the objective of creating a group dynamic around the project. We will be working on both the administrative and cultural aspects with our youth. During the mobility, our goals are: making the youth aware of other cultures, discovering Bulgarian and French traditions. The youth will go meet the locals, do cultural and historical visits in the Region. Based on these discoveries, with the help of a Romanian artist, they will realize a fresco in the cafeteria of a Bulgarian primary school. The fresco will be inaugurated at the end of the mobility and we will organize an event with the locals, the partners of the project, and possibly local elected representatives. The group will be housed in the dormitory of a boarding school, in 4-person rooms. Meals will be cooked directly on site by the youth and with the help of a cook. In September, we are planning to communicate about our results, to showcase the youth project, and to build on the successes and learning outcomes they acquired during the project. For the Louis and Zelie Martin educational services, this project will foster new education projects, with the goal of offering new perspectives to our youth. Moreover we would like this project to be the first phase of a reciprocal exchange: if possible and if we find the funds, we would like to welcome young Bulgarians in France so they, too, can discover our way of life.
