Jeunes catalans et ruralité
Start date: Jun 20, 2014, End date: Oct 19, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The exchange program called "Young Catalans and rurality" aims to gather together young people who come from rural areas of two European countries (France and Spain). These young people face the same issues due to the remoteness of the places they live in: geographic remoteness of the vocational training centers and universities (increased costs for transportation, accommodation...) and lack of employment. So, this exchange program would allow them to compare their issues, to identify their similarities in order to find out solutions to revitalise the rural areas and to create job prospects. That is why two public entities which have both a youth service corps (the Consell Comarcal de La Garrotxa (Spain) and the Communauté de Communes des Aspres (France)), offered to organise an exchange program which will entail: - debates and discussions about “employment and vocational training in rural areas”, - visits to industries, - recreational activities, culture and sports. This program will have a duration of 4 months, starting the 28th of july and ending the 2nd of august of 2014. The exchanges between the youngs will take place in the “Aspres” (France), which Thuir is the main village. In this framework, 30 young people (15 from each country) will have the opportunity to join this program to find out various solutions to the difficulties they face due to living in remote areas and to share valuable experiences. During this program, mornings will be dedicated to various workshops (debates or visits to industries), and afternoons to recreational, cultural and sports activities. This program will allow the sharing of experiences in order to help the professional career of these young people and to promote the attractiveness of rural areas. It appears important to us that young people facing such difficulties realise that there are solutions and help for professional training and job seeking even in rural areas. These young people need to realise that they are not alone in this situation and that other young people in other European countries are facing the same difficulties. In the future, this program should promote the young people’s mobility around the cross-border areas, especially the one that covers the most remote areas. It is also supposed to increase the young people's feeling of belonging to the European community. This program could be the beginning of a solid collaboration between all the European Union countries involved in youth service corps.
