JET-een Jong en Energiek Toekomstcongres
Start date: Dec 1, 2009,
"JET" aims at creating an inspiring, innovative and open debate on youth, youth work and youth policy with as summit a two-day national youth meeting on 8 and 9 February 2010. The acronym JET stands for "a young and energetic seminar for the future" (een Jong en Energiek Toekomstcongres). The meeting is set up in Europe's Youth Capital of 2011, Antwerp (Belgium). The project, that is organised by Steunpunt Jeugd, aims at participation from at least 500 people of which minimum 400 are between the age of 15 and 30. JET is structured around six main themes: Identity; Work and economy; Media and culture; Social well-being; Education; Space. Each theme is divided into six subtopics allowing different points of view on each theme. Next to these 6 themes, "the framework of Flemish youth" joins 6 subtopics on youth, youth work and youth policy from a European perspective. The whole project includes the preparatory work on all sessions, the meeting itself and a final publication. Because Steunpunt Jeugd wants to focus on the future possibilities for children and youngsters and wants each session during the meeting to be visionary and innovative, the process of preparing the sessions is as important as the actual delivery of the sessions. That is why for every subtopic presented during the meeting, a working team of experts, relevant stakeholders, children, youngsters or students is set up in order to prepare the content and methodology. This guarantees an exchange of ideas and knowledge on societal themes which affect children and young people both during the preparation phase and during the meeting. This project aims at creating a new vision on youth, youth work and youth policy across all sectors both at grass root level and policy level, from the local to the European level; advice for the Flemish government, and concrete plans of action for the future. A JET-website and an extended publication will summarize all findings of the meeting and its preparatory process.
