Jean Monnet Professorship of European Constitutional and Economic Law
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This Action will consolidate the teaching of EU-related subjects in UCD & introduce new subjects. The Action involves innovative EU law subjects being taught at undergraduate & postgraduate level & in Summer Schools (which attract students from the USA). Teaching will also be undertaken in Germany & China.Improved understanding of EU law outside the classroom should also result. Two books will be published during the lifetime of the Action, as well as papers on open access websites (the UCD Research Repository, the DEI Paper series, the IIEA Research Papers series & the Sutherland Law School Research Paper series on SSRN). Other internet sites such as Linked In, Academia.eu , the DEI blog & Twitter will be used to disseminate research papers & other EU-related material. The impact of the Action can be assessed by feedback forms; numbers of research papers produced & the download statistics for such papers; books published & peer-reviewed articles in international journals; university courses taught; conferences, workshops & seminars held & the attendance at same; online papers produced & downloaded, information being made available on blogs or on Twitter, then being downloaded or availed of. The rationale for the Action is that (i) the ongoing & extensive response of the EU to the ongoing financial crisis makes understanding the law of EMU & an increased understanding of the constitutional side of EU law more imperative than ever; (ii) EU studies at UCD will be encouraged anew by this Action, & (iii) the envisaged lectures, conferences, workshops & seminars will give greater visibility to EU law studies. EU law studies will be fostered internationally by putting papers & information up on the internet, by attendance of large number of non-Irish students in UCD & by the delivery of lectures in Germany & China.New subjects will be taught, innovative teaching methods used & online technologies deployed to disseminate research papers & EU-related information.
