Je travaille en Version Originale Européenne
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The principal and the staff of our Regional Professional Lycée have developed a project which aims to improve pupils’ standards in modern languages and autonomy. We are situated in a small rural town in one of the seven poorest departments in France. Professional openings are scarce and the economy is losing momentum. It is therefore necessary to prepare and train the young people in the Agen area to become mobile. Our pupils can be in tough situations, as a result of living in a difficult family context. In response to these sociological difficulties, the Lycée opened the first Professional Micro Lycée in France in September 2013 to accommodate young people who have dropped out of the school system. One of our main aims is to create an awareness of European opportunities through work placements in Europe. These ambitious projects increase our young peoples’ self-esteem. Although the approach is initially timid and incredulous, these projects are strongly supported by the students and their families. The best proof of our success is during enrolment, when students tell us that a neighbour or a friend told them about their experience in a European country. Whether it is through the Leonardo Da Vinci or Comenius programme, or through a school trip, these young people have been able to leave their region, generally for the first time, to go to Great Britain, Spain or Poland for work placements within companies or to almost any of the other European countries through the Comenius projects. Our Erasmus+ 2014 project concerns 25 Lycée students which corresponds to the average number of accepted applications which we are in a position to deal with each school year. Our European partners are constantly developing, according to the contacts and networks of the team in charge of the European activity. For 2014-2016 the host companies will be situated in the towns of Torquay and Portsmouth in Great Britain, Toledo with whom we are twinned in Spain and we hope in Ceske Budejovice and Brno in the Czech Republic. Recruitment is made on a voluntary basis. With regard to the Micro Lycée, it is the team who proposes the activity to the pupils. This process is intentionally long (5 to 10 months) and personalised to enable the student to adequately prepare himself for this experience. Since 2006, our educational establishment has received 83 Leonardo grants and made more than 750 young people mobile. A survey to evaluate the long term impact of these experiences will be carried out in September 2014. Pupils studying the “Baccalauréat Professionnel Vente Prospection” (selling techniques) are going to trace and contact all those pupils who have benefited from these programmes, in order to provide quantitative and qualitative data which we are currently lacking ; as much on a school success level (diploma, further studies), as on a professional level (local, regional, national and international vacancies; types of contract, periods of unemployment) and on a personal level (foreign language skills, general culture, responsibility, independence).
