Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project Challenges and opportunities has been designed with the purpose of upgrading the knowledge acquired in previous projects and as an extension of collaboration from our previous projects. We accepted the challenges and exploited the new project opportunities offered to us with new partnerships and new ideas. We would like to transfer the gained experience, competences and knowledge from the professional area into daily practice at school and into a deeper collaboration with our project partners: our partner school from Finland, which we have worked with successfully for almost 10 years and the companies which provide work placement for our students. Taking part in the project will enable the participants to develop their professional and key competences as they will be able to take part in practical instruction and on the job learning in the fields of safety and security as well as in foreign language classes. They will transfer their theoretical knowledge into daily professional situations and thus learn to become more flexible in different working and learning environments. They will share their knowledge with foreign co-workers, transfer their knowledge into their own working environment. Cross-cultural awareness, comparing your own culture and language with foreign ones, communication in foreign language and in language for specific purposes, upgrading your language knowledge and accepting the differences are also important aspects of the project. The participants will be able to learn about the meaning of life-long learning which will enable them to understand the ideas of mobility and the importance of participation in European projects. All this will contribute to their personal and professional development. By taking part in the mobility the participants will become more flexible and interesting for the labour market, they will learn about new technologies, procedures and working methods in their professional areas, they will use ICT to monitor the results, report about their tasks and disseminate the results of the project. 20 safety and security students, 7 teachers of specific subjects and 3 language teachers from Srednja prometna šola, and 4 mentors from both partner companies Varnost Maribor and F. A. Maik are going to participate in the mobility programme in Finland in years 2016 – 2018. Our partner organisation Oulu vocational college (OSAO), Liminka-Kempele unit, is going to provide on the job learning and practical instruction for our students, and job shadowing programme for teachers and mentors. The students are going to take part in practical instruction at school and in the companies, the teachers and mentors are going to perform job shadowing in the schools and in the companies. They are going to work together with Finnish teachers and mentors, teach their students together, monitor their progress and help them solve the problems, assess and evaluate their work. They are going to carry out evaluation and self-evaluation together with the students. During the preparation stages of the project all the project partners have been working together, each fulfilling their own tasks. We have defined the project objectives and activities, prepared the criteria for the participants selection. Before the actual mobility we are going to take care of language preparation and cultural preparation of the participants. We are going to use ICT, social networks and virtual learning environments for communication, monitoring, reporting and evaluating participants' progress. We are going to disseminate the results of the project using different media and preparing different activities. The anticipated results of our project are: professional knowledge upgrade, professional and key competences development, using acquired knowledge in daily professional situations, work and working environment improvement, awareness of different cultures, accepting and understanding different cultures, using foreign language as a communication tool in different professional and general situations, using ICT, life-long learning importance awareness. The project results will influence professional and personal development of the participants. Long-term project results will probably reflect in greater flexibility of practical instruction organisation in the school and on-the-job learning organisation in the companies, using new teaching methods and tools, open curriculum adjustment to the needs of labour market, regional and national networking with the companies and continuous constructive cooperation among project partners in the future.
