Izboljšane kompetence strokovnega osebja - ključ do uspešne socialne in ekonomske vključenosti Romov
Start date: Aug 25, 2014, End date: Aug 24, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

People's University of Kočevje has grown into adult education center with a diverse range of programs based on formal and informal forms of education that covers a wide geographic area from Velike Lašče to Osilnica by the border river of Kolpa in the south of Slovenia. Our educational programs and trainings pay great attention to the work of the Roma ethnic group. We perceive a growing need for new ideas, methods, forms of work and activities that will have an impact on the motivation of Roma to raise their level of education and level of employability. We find that, despite our rich past experience in the preparation and implementation of various programs for the discussed target group, we need access to international experience, as is the fact that another culture and a different way of working with the same target group brings different, innovative solutions. We are planning a 4-day visit to the organization which deals with the target group of Roma in Spain. Through the project "Improved Skills of Professional Staff - The Key to Successful Social and Economic Inclusion of Roma" we will learn about the positive experiences of the Spanish colleagues in the integration of Roma in education and in the labour market, we will exchange best practices by identifying their needs and by motivation of this vulnerable target group and ultimately gain the experience of a Europe trip and enrich communication in a foreign language. We have chosen Spain as our destination, because there lives a million Roma, 70 percent of them reach the average level of education. Our participation under learning mobility has a broader meaning, as we intend to establish in what way the hosts prepare and implement successful programs that serve the increased integration of the Roma into the labour market and implement their positive experiences in our environment, therefore to pass their good practice on our floor on institutional, local as well as regional and national level. Within the project we plan to implement the following activities: - Finding the appropriate host organization (at the projects application stage and preparation of the application); - Organization of practical and logistical matters (travel, abroad staying and insurance of participants); - Preparation for learning mobility -(linguistic preparation, preparation of work plan, presentation of the People's University of Kočevje, evaluation questionnaires); - Implementation of the learning mobility (travel implementation, meeting with the representatives of the host organization and implementation of the learning mobility program). We plan European learning mobility for four professionals that deal with Roma people at their work and have a need to gain new insights, innovative approaches, methods and ways of working to improve the quality of their work, which will allow for personal advancement, a higher educational level and a higher level of Roma employability in our environment. In our region, Roma people are present for many years, but the identification and recognition of different cultural (social and ethical) background and thus respect for diversity brings to the fore the successful co-existence in society in recent years. The activity of "mobility" within the Erasmus + program is an excellent opportunity for contact and view different way of working with this target group, because the other culture certainly means a different way of communication, attitudes and behaviour. Visit the international environment is therefore an excellent opportunity to expand the horizons for all practitioners involved in working with Roma at all levels. Integration of vulnerable groups namely is not only adaptation of educational programs for our organization but primarily highly qualified staff that will be able to establish a pleasant and inspiring environment for learning, socializing and conversation with members of vulnerable groups. The lessons learned will undoubtedly enhance the knowledge of experts in the successful resolution of potential conflicts and problems. In the educational work the teachers will be more successful in teaching and motivating for learning. Mobility also brings increasing the level of awareness of international and intercultural equality (the Roma in Slovenia, the Roma in the EU) and the necessity of intercultural dialogue for creating a supportive environment, thus contributing to the sustainable development of local society. Mobility participants gain experience in the field of holistic approach in working with Roma, which is crucial for the successful integration of the Roma in the environment they live in. The project will contribute to the European dimension of our educational institution, as the experience gained will be passed on to other employees at the People's University of Kočevje, to external collaborators and indirectly to the participants to whom the project is primarily intended.
