IST Re-qualification of Disabled Persons

The project will provide the opportunity and tools to enable disabled persons, principally those disabled as a result of a road traffic accident, to re-train in order to fully participate in society and in the workplace. Computer-based training tools will be developed and special attention will be given to devising training programmes that do not unduly stress disabled people in the course of their rehabilitation. The project will survey the marketplace to identify existing ICT services and related training curricula and available web-based training material will be evaluated for its suitability for use by disabled persons. Selected, suitable material will be adopted and piloted with the target group in three rehabilitation centres with adjustments made to content and delivery following feedback from the pilot phase. The project expects to allow disabled persons to re-train through internet-based media and to work towards the award of a certificate or diploma upon course completion. The experience of rehabilitation specialists with the course material will be presented in the form of 'Recommendations for the Training Regime', the results of which will be delivered at an international conference for rehabilitation specialists. A dedicated project website will facilitate communication between partners and will be key for the dissemination of project results, a part of which will address associations working with the disabled. Beyond the development of training tools, project partners will work closely with government ministries in an effort to gain support for the programme, specifically financial support for equipment.
