Introduction to European Business Administration and Organisations
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2019 PROJECT  FINISHED

Free movements of people, goods, services and capitals have been at the heart of the European Union (EU) ever since its creation, and have allowed the emergence and growth of what now represents one the largest consumer markets in the world. The recent economic crisis has however highlighted the need to innovate and create new businesses, for instance drawing from emerging social and societal concerns (e.g. protecting the environment) or new technologies (e.g. 3D printing) to foster economic growth. In order to successfully develop new businesses in Europe, one needs to understand the European context, its history, and how its institutions shape business practices across member states and the common market. The present module introduces EU issues to students on a business administration programme (Bachelor in Management with liberal arts and languages) in an interdisciplinary way. Students taking this compulsory module will be from a management program, which will take them to study in 3 different countries of the EU over the course of their 3-year Bachelor degree. The course will also be offered as an option to students of the pre-master programme (French Grande Ecole students), using distance learning platforms and video-link classes. The proposed Jean-Monnet Module will thus provide an introduction to European Union studies to a student population, which would not otherwise come in contact with these topics. The Guiding questions for students on the course are: What is the role played by EU Institutions in shaping business practices of the member states? What is the European business environment like? What is it like to innovate and develop businesses in the EU? How should one approach business on one of the largest common markets in the world? How has the EU made business in Europe easier? What are the roots and values of the EU and what do they mean in terms of doing business in the EU?
