Internationalisierung der HAK/HAS Lustenau
Start date: Jun 30, 2016, End date: Jun 29, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The requirements for students of the business college Lustenau have changed radically due to changes in the working world, especially in Vorarlberg. While until a few years ago it was small to medium-sized enterprises that were active mainly at regional level, it is now high tech companies that act on a global basis. This increased internationality is also illustrated by Vorarlberg’s export quotas and can be seen in the job descriptions and vacancies: Working in international teams, multilingualism and international work experience are increasingly sought-after and ever more important job qualifications. In order to prepare students in the best possible way for increasingly networked working environments, the business college Lustenau introduced an international branch of study three years ago and this year the project ‘Business college Lustenau goes International’, where the foreign internalship is an essential aspect. The foreign internalship is immensely important for the students, as it supports them in......fulfilling the high demands with regard to multilingualism within this educational programme,...learning what it means to work abroad,...developing the skill of working with people from different national and cultural backgrounds,...experiencing the core values of the EU (free movements of persons, free choice of work),...collecting hands-on work experience already during education, and thus boosting the chances of finding a job easily after graduating.... preparing them for work with international enterprisesThe internship abroad constitutes a central part in combining theoretical as well as practical aspects within the educational programme. “Internationality” can be taught only up to a certain extent – true internationality can only be conveyed through hands-on experience. In order for this project to be successful, a number of systematic measures, recorded in a project manual, have been and are being executed. The first of these measures is an intensive-information week for EVERY class. Preparation and implementation are integrated into a school subject (Business Behaviour), every student gets his/her own supervising teacher and a progress record is kept in the form of an internship-portfolio. In the long run both students and enterprises should regard the business college Lustenau as an international educational institution. This should assure that graduates get a job quickly and more importantly, they should be well prepared for the work with international teams and enterprises.
