Internationale stage op landbouwbedrijven in West-Europa
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

With this project "International working placements on farms in Western Europe" we build further on similar projects of Leonardo. This time we apply for two years mobility, for the year 2016 (school year 2015-2016) and 2017 (school year 2016-2017). In these two years the 45 pupils of VABI Roeselare (sending organization) of the sixth year technical agricultural education and the seventh year vocational agricultural education are given the opportunity to do a traineeship on a farm abroad for two or four weeks, depending on the destination. The pupils are put to work on a farm in Holland, France or Denmark. The traineeship takes two weeks in Holland and France, and four weeks in Denmark, since it is further. For Denmark there is also the possibility to attend a practical dairy course together with other European students. This course is organized by our Danish partner school Grasten Landbrugsskole at the time or our pupils’ traineeship. These pupils then have a combination of traineeship and practical course. The countries are very different concerning language and culture but also in terms of agriculture. Depending on the pupils’ choices they will find themselves in a specialized or a mixed company. The most common branches on these companies are cattle, pigs, arable farming and vegetables. We also find it important that the students arrive in a warm environment. Mostly the students stay with a family where they experience different customs socially and culturally. The weekend is the perfect time to do cultural excursions with the family. We go to different countries/regions because every region has its agricultural particularities, e.g. Denmark is famous for its pigs, Normandy for its cattle. Denmark and Holland are a lot more progressive in terms of agriculture. The weekend just before the traineeship starts the pupils visit the region under the guidance of the teachers. The program consists of cultural and agricultural visits. Sunday evening all pupils are at their farm and the real traineeship can start. To find the right companies for each pupil VABI can count on several partners abroad. There is one central partner in Holland (Aeres-groep, Groenhorst College Barneveld), two in Denmark (Bygholm Landbrugsskole and Grasten Landbrugsskole) and one partner in France (Lycée Agricole in Tourville). The partners do everything they can to find suitable companies, something we as a sending organization can’t do.During the traineeship teachers of Vabi will meet the receiving organizations in the host country and will visit the pupils on their working placements. The sending organization will put everything at work to prepare the participants optimally. Language and also culture will be important. In and outside the normal classes the students are made aware of this and are prepared thoroughly. All preparations, among others a unique 5-days practical course in Battice, are explained further in this document. We are convinced that a working placement abroad for these pupils is a real experience of a lifetime. We carry out this project in several ways and for several groups: Facebook, the school newspaper, the VABI website,…
