Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

41 future childcare and special needs practitioners spent periods of four weeks on work experience in Torbay in Southern England. Beneficiaries of the department of childcare and education took over roles as teaching assistants (TAs) at primary schools due to the increased demand of professionalised staff in that field in Germany in connection with the development towards full day schooling. Beneficiaries of the department of special needs care and curative education were active as learning support assistants at a special needs school as well as day care centres for the disabled and mentally ill. They investigated the effects of person centred planning on the degree participation of those clients in connection with the introduction of a personal budget for the disabled in Germany. The future childcare practitioners were exchanging work related experiences with students of the course Comparative Studies in Education at South Devon College in Paignton which helped acquire deeper insights into different aspects of education in both countries. The future special needs practitioners developed perspectives together with an expert on the concept of person centred planning. Both in-service trainings were confirmed with certificates of participation by South Devon College and Torbay Care Trust. The whole mobility was certified with Europass Mobility. The culmination point of each the mobilities was the self contained planning and organisation of an educational activitiy and putting that learning arrangement into place. For that the beneficiaries could rely on the expertise of experienced tutors of the sending organsiation accompanying them with advice. All beneficiaries were prepared in a specialised optional course, called Europa-Kurs. Preparation on language and intercultural aspects took place in meetings beyond school hours as well as abroad during the mobility by a language teacher. The method applied was CLIL - content and language integrated learning with a special focus on the areas of work of the beneficiaries. Due to the mobilities quality in training in the above mentioned areas could be improved and the beneficiaries as future staff received a proper training in those areas. Hence the attractiveness of the sending organisation as a training college with European profile could be increased.
