Internationale Jugendkonferenz zu Antiziganismus
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Racism against Roma and Sinti („Anti-Gypsyism“) is widely spread in Europe, but rarely questioned. Moreover, it leads to violent assaults, agitation and hate speech in the media und increasing social exclusion. In many countries, measures and initiatives against this form of racism are taken, but there is too little transnational exchange and too little transnational activities. On this account, Romano Centro and partner organisations are organising the "International Youth Conference on Anti-Gypsyism" which will take place in Vienna from November 10th to November 16th 2014. (For preparation, there will be a meeting with one representative of each organisation from August 22nd to 24 th.) 60 young Roma activists from 11 countries, between the age of 16 and 30, will be encouraged in their commitment against racism and discrimination and they will exchange and discuss their ideas, initiatives, activities and open questions concerning this topic. The goals are to encourage the activists with regard to their knowledge, skills and the fundamental approach to take joint measures against racism. They will have the opportunity to learn from each other and from experts, how racism can be met in various fields and which possibilities exist to raise the awareness for this topic. After the conference, the participants will have improved expert knowledge, know many different projects and initiatives, have dealt with methods and teaching materials and have engaged themselves in artistic ways to approach the topic. They will be encouraged in their commitment and qualified to introduce the new skills and experiences to their organisations and to realize them in their surroundings. Through this, not only the participants will be empowered, but also their organizations. Because of their important role as multipliers, they ensure, that „Anti-Gypsyism“ in Europe will be discussed and fought. On the national and local level, the press conference and the public event in Vienna will open the topic of „Anti-Gypsyism“ to the public.
