International Traineeships for IT students
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

JOMA is primarily a technical school with a long tradition in offering short courses for the majority of its students. The courses are well organized, integrated into the curriculum and we have a network of interesting local workplaces. The school was ready to take the internships to an international level. JOMA wanted to make a cautious start with the international stages: two interns for a period of two weeks in a one-year project called "International internships for IT students," IT4ITs. Trainees are recruited from the Information Management department. After a positive experience, we want to grow in the international internships. We also applied for Call 2016. We had two main objectives. First, we wanted to offer our students more opportunities on the labour market by international experience. The students used their technical skills along with language skills. Their social network has grown as well as their mobility and cultural awareness. Secondly the institute learned how courses are organized and evaluated abroad. This has an impact on local traineeships that will be reviewed and certified by methods used abroad. The mentors of the internships are faced with different visions in particular in the field of evaluation. After the selection and preparation of candidates two trainees went on a two weeks internship. The work was offered by the partner institution in Barcelona. The mentor from our school guided the students / trainees, he started up and was available during the training period. After the internship, the experience was distributed within the institution. The trainees were provided with national and European certificates (Europass). The trainees were highly motivated for the training and became more internationally oriented. They offered the chance to trainees from abroad to take an internship here. The mentors acquired more management skills, because they were working with an experienced partner. The mentors of the Information Management department became familiar with the European approach to individual learning mobility. Their enthusiasm was contagious for other departments in the school and in our new application is also an application for internships in the Office Management department.
