International Session of the European Youth Parliament in Tampere
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The International Session of the European Youth Parliament in Tampere (IS Tampere) brought together 242 young participants from 31 European countries, including local youth from Finland. This includes participants from 5 partner countries who were not a formal part of this Erasmus+ project and their participation was funded by other partners. The project showed the impact that an event like this can have on its participants, as well as on their direct and indirect environment. During eight working days between 24th of July and 2nd of August 2015, the event created a unique parliamentary simulation for the young delegates to work together, learn from each other, and experience parliamentary democracy first hand. It offered them a unique experience to directly engage with decision-makers and experts. The participants were divided into fifteen international working groups to discuss a current European topic each and to draft a resolution by formulating their own ideas. They also received input and were in dialogue with experts and politicians during this process. The resolutions were then debated in a two-day General Assembly, simulating the real European Parliament, but giving the participants the opportunity to express their own opinions. Additionally, the International Session included a series of cultural events promoting intercultural exchange and dialogue and celebrating Europe’s rich cultural diversity. By participating in IS Tampere, the young participants went through a non-formal as well as informal learning experience aimed at the promotion of European citizenship, active participation, democratic procedures and values and intercultural dialogue. Within the project, we wish to encourage young people to actively participate in discussions currently on the political agenda as well as to learn new skills through working in international multi-cultural teams on challenging political topics. The event is an entirely youth driven project, organised by voluntary active young people aged generally between 18 and 26. EYP Finland hosted the event and was supported by a steering group of four close partners. A bigger group of sending partners selected participants from in total 26 countries to Tampere.
