International breeze in Metsäkartano
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

International Breeze in Metsäkartano"- project, brings two Greek EVS volunteers (male and female) to Metsäkartano Youth Centre, Rautavaara, Finland for 11 months European voluntary service beginning from September 2016 . The aim and tasks of the volunteers is to support the international team of the youth centre in setting up, planning, implementing and evaluation their activities and projects. The EVS volunteers will also have an important role in the working community as well as in local region. The objective of the long-term EVS is to increase and develop the "internationalization" of our youth centre, through adding intercultural value to our everyday activities and events hosted directly in Metsäkartano, as well as carried out by our regional partners. In concrete, the volunteers will work in planning, implementing and evaluating our different youth work forms (social and international youth work, camp schools, social family work and more) as well as take role in assisting the maintenance, administrative and logistical elements of the centre's every day events. Besides this, the volunteers will work i.e. in school and youth house visits in the region to promote young people's opportunities to go international, and act as volunteers. During the 11-month long project volunteers will interact in many different fields of youth work. Their engagement with work and people is foreseen especially to increase the understanding for other cultures and the communication for all, for the volunteers the work community and the young people engaging their selves with the volunteer. It will play an important role in giving positive international experiences through out the project, and in many cases "a starting point" for interest to go further. The concrete tasks and interactions in the field of youth work will expand the cultural awareness and intercultural exchanges, and constantly pose the question around us; "how to / how should we work with children and young people?" The volunteers will give information and presentations about their home countries and culture to the local youth. During their stay in Metsäkartano volunteers will have the possibility to bond with the local young people and get to know the Finnish way of life, to broaden their horizon and exchange ideas and practices. EVS volunteers will develop social skills, language skills and contribute on the personal evolvement of the volunteer and people that are engaged. Educational methods like non-formal learning and environmental education are also learned and during the project. Most importantly, volunteers will leave a permanent "international mark" in the practice, community and people met, hopefully as a positive experience about diversity, internationality, solidarity and young people.
