Interkultureller Studienaufenthalt der Fremdsprachenindustriekaufleute
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since 2009, the Public Vocational School 2 in Passau conducts a 4-week stay abroad for the foreign language industrial business management assistants. In 2011, our school received a Leonardo da Vinci mobility certificate for this project. The mobility measure is a mainstay of our dual education and training model in the form of a double qualification as an industrial business management assistant and foreign language correspondent (English). This model is carried out in cooperation with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Passau and the regional training companies. In accordance with the internationalisation strategy of the Public Vocational School 2, a four-member EU-Team consisting of teachers, who among other things organise the international project, was established in 2010. The target group for this formal training and education are trainees with secondary school qualifications as well as high school graduates. By now, 30-40 participants take part in this foreign measure, each year. We organise the stay in England as a combination of 2 weeks occupational project work at the European College of Business and Management in London, and 2 weeks work placement in small and medium-sized companies, organised by Tellus Group Ltd in Plymouth (South England). In a precisely designed training programme at the ECBM the aim is to especially promote the professional and linguistic skills of the trainees. During their work placement, the trainees work in international teams and correspond with foreign business partners, which in return, should encourage their intercultural occupational competence. Accommodating the trainees with guest families leads to improvement of their linguistic skills and a better understanding of the English way of life. Due to a genuine encounter with a different culture, the entire stay leads to an awareness-raising and cultural openness of the participants. The relativity of values, perceptions as well as mentality and manners are sharpened. They have the ability to act appropriately in both professional as well as private intercultural situations. At the end of each stay abroad, we have found that our trainees have become independent and self-confident and have reduced their fear of the new/unknown. The skills acquired through the project and certificates (e.g. Europass Mobility) improve the employment opportunities especially in international companies. Since 2008, in the course of this project, the offered training places for our education and training model have increased from 16 to 34 places. The success of this project was certainly one of the reasons why another vocational school in Lower Bavaria, the vocational school in Landshut, has decided to adopt this double qualification.
