"Intercultural work experience in home economics and socio-pedagogical settings for school children and adolecents in Europe" At Schulzentrum Neustadt the two departments "Home Economics" and "Social Paedagogy" have been engaged in European exchange projects for about 10 years. The aim of the project is to enable ten future child care workers to get international practical experience as well as to compare and evaluate theories of pedagogical concepts in the field. The professional requirements demanded of child care workers have risen dramatically due to societal changes. Flexibility, broad theoretical knowledge and field evaluation of this knowledge is expected. In most European countries the training of child care workers takes places in colleges, in Germany in professional schools. For future child care workers a placement abroad gives them the opportunity to extend their knowledge and experience at European level and to gain valuable intercultural competences. All of which can be used to support their future socio-pedagogical careers in Germany as well as to increase their chances on the European labor market. The Schulzentrum Neustadt promotes the qualification of VET provider to increase their intercultural abilities due to the mission of diversity management. In this project 18 VET provider of the person-related services sector get the opportunity to compare vocational systems to improve their trainer activities as well as their human resource management. The aim of the project is, besides the encouragement and support for trainees and their future mobilities, to develop structures for the effective composition of learning processes and assessments - not only for trainees, but also for unskilled and semi-skilled workers which have often a migration background. For this purpose, it is necessary to reflect the own behaviour as instructors. From experience the ability to perceive other professional approaches increases in foreign cultures when professional constraints are limited. The sensitization for intercultural situations and the knowledge of different methods to identify competencies are gaining more meaning in the course of inclusive approaches for refugees and people with a migration background in Europe. The vocational school of home economics organizes vocational training placements for 4 weeks for 6 students of the 2nd year .The aim of this project is to promote flexibility and mobility for young students, to increase the attractiveness of the vocational training and to strengthen the capability of reflection as a base for lifelong learning.Within the framework of ECVET the aim is to certify the intensive learning process of formal and informal learning for the trainees. The learning process consists on the one hand of an increase of vocational action ability, on the other hand of the intercultural competencies acquired by informal learning. Two equivalent learning units are created.LO1: Preparing meals and beverages according to personal specificationsLO2: Cleaning, maintaining and designing of living environment. One learning unit is agreed upon for each working placement and each student depending on the operational framework and the competencies which are important for the trainee to develop. This unit represents the focus for the practical work besides other tasks and duties. These learning units are documented in terms of assessment sheet and reflection talks. To certify the results the trainees receive the europass mobility and get the possibility to achieve an additional certificate for “Intercultural Action Ability” (§9 Berufsbildungsgesetz). Thus each student increases their chances on the national or European labor market.
