Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school is a primary school situated in a socially deprived area. A high percentage (80%) of our children have a migratory background; there is a wide range of different cultures and ethnicities; besides many children have only poor access to education due to their families, others have special needs based on physical or mental disabilities or even behaviour problems. Our aim is to improve the intercultural competences and project management tools of each member of staff. We intend to make our school a European respectively a cosmopolitan school where each member is seen as individual and each feels a sense of togetherness no matter which cultural background or which language he or she speaks. ObjectivesMain aim is to make the idea of European integration alive at our school and to bridge the cultural and social gap between the different school groups. Furthermore we aim at the improvement of intercultural competences and project management tools for the head teachers to start with and a further group of teachers hereafter. Both these will act as multipliers in order to reinforce the installation of European ideas in lessons and make them integrated part of our school curriculum. Our teachers will have the chance to get in touch with prospective project partners by the European training courses and will become able to plan, organize and realize students’ exchanges. Description of activities:Taking part in training courses on project management and intercultural topicsMethodology on project implementation: By taking part in the training courses teachers will be enabled to improve their intercultural competences. Consequently it should go without saying that they include these in their lessons as well as in their interaction with their students. The acquired knowledge should help teachers to institutionalize European projects in school.Description of intended results and consequences and potentially long-term benefits:By taking part in the European training programmes the school will be motivated to reinforce dealing with intercultural learning and to initiate European projects. This kind of teacher training will open up all staff for European projects. The students will benefit from the European projects. Their intercultural, social and language competences will improve. If our experiences are positive, we should apply for getting admission to become a European school in the Hessian programme.
