The project“Interculturalism and tolerance in the educational environment”was a KA1 project implemented by “Vasile Parvan”Secondary School from Birlad,in order to facilitate the development,in an European context,of 12 teachers(8 teachers&4 primary school teachers),giving them skills,techniques,methods and processes specific to the activities with students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds,in a period of 1 year. In this regard,we put in the first place the stipulations of the National Education Law that promotes the principle of respecting diversity&intercultural dialogue.An important objective of our European Development Plan is to develop institution’s capacity to promote multiculturalism and interculturalism among school’s students from disadvantaged backgrounds.The objective results from the large number of students from disadvantaged families,many parents with a low educational level,single-parent families-6%,families with unemployed parents-9%,Roma children-3.9%,emigrants-3.2%,families with parents abroad-12 %,students with serious health problems-2%,pupils with cumulative SEN-36.1%. Our school proposed as specific objectives: - Developing the skills of the 8 teachers to interact with people of different minorities, to manage conflicts, to promote cultural diversity - Development of the competences of 4 teachers to conduct group management, leadership, communication activities and to implement non-formal activities - Creation in school of an inclusive educational environment which promotes values such as tolerance and respect for cultural diversity,equality,non-discrimination Strategic options are: - Establishment of management teams/ project implementation - Development of implementation, monitoring, evaluation, dissemination/ sustainability plans and their annexation to the School’s plan management - Participation in training activities - Formation of teams of specialists,from different subject areas, to use modern means and strategies,non-formal activities,virtual platforms and ICT elements - Implementation of dissemination,monitoring/ evaluation throughout the project The project aimed at capitalizing on the elements of cultural diversity,collaborating at both curricular and cross-curricular area level.The training activities were held in three fluxes-November 2015,March&April 2016, 8 participants at Intercultural Competences and 4 at New Teacher for new Competencies. The courses were provided by the NGO Aintek Symvoului Epicheiriseon Efarmoges Ypsilis Technologias Ekpaidef and Anonymi Etaireia-Greece,Piraeus. - The first flux of mobilities: 4 teachers-November 2015-in Greece,Piraeus-the course Intercultural Competences - The second flux of mobilities: 4 teachers-March 2016-in Greece,Piraeus-the course Intercultural Competences,the theme of the course was the understanding of culture,multiculturalism in education,valuing cultural diversity,multicultural cooperation&communication. - The third flux-April 2016-Greece,Piraeus-the course New Teacher for new Competencies -4 teachers.The theme of the course were:personal competentences,teamwork skills,motivation&self-motivation,understanding of minorities’ cultural needs. The project allowed teachers and students an understanding of cultural diversity and European values as well as gaining awareness of the importance of communication in English.The activities offered to the course participants learning situations in which they transferred competences from the curriculum to the transdisciplinary,they identified connections&common topics,collaborative learning becoming an essential educational component in our school;there were initiated volunteer projects with the ISJ Vaslui,the Childs Life Association-Netherlands,Global Volunteers-USA The proposed activities influenced the formation of social,civic,cultural skills, of cultural diversity, tolerance&social inclusion,the results becoming obvious: - A school curriculum, an optional and course support for Intercultural Communication,registered at the Teacher’s Training Institution in Vaslui-Registration No 1611/08.22.2016 - A school curriculum called Civic culture-participatory citizenship-Registration No 1610/22.08.2016 AT Teacher’s Training Institution in Vaslui County - A course support for Civic culture-participatory citizenship -Registration No 1731/08.31.2016 at Teacher’s Training Institution in Vaslui County - An educational software -Participatory citizenship-Registration No 1610/22.08.2016. at Teacher’s Training Institution in Vaslui County - Miniguide of best practice in intercultural education,ISBN-978-606-92689-8-8 - 1 eTwinning project- Small objects - Big Stories; - Project website http://intereducatie.wordpress.com/ Thus,the teachers&pupils have improved their key skills necessary for personal&professional development,intercultural competencies that provide a sustainable environment for an inclusive education.
