Intercultural domino
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project brings together 21 young people and group leaders from Finland, Lithuania and Poland. The participants are young students from 17 to 26. They will meet up in Cracow, Poland, and create “Intercultural Domino”, a project that will take a deeper look into European Citizenship and young people´s life in North / East Europe. From our view there is a gap between North and East Europe. In the life of young people these countries might not have a dialogue together. We want to see if we can break the prejudice and cultural boundaries that separate North and East Europe. We want to learn to understand what is European culture when we combine Nordic and Eastern Europe together. We want to see if the life of young people is similar in the East and North. Can European Citizenship be something that apply to all of the young people participating in the project? The project will give us a way to cooperate and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and give the young people the chance to be proactive, to bringing up their own ideas and give them space to be creative and take responsibility. It can build up young people’s confidence, cultural identity and they can find new ways to learn. We want to bring young people together and raise European awareness and solidarity. This project offers it´s participants a safe place for non-formal learning and it will also include in-formal learning. The participants picked art as the main method to get to know each others countries and culture. The youth exchange will have workshops in dance, art and drama, that represents the life of the young people and cultural characteristics in their regions. Using drama, dance and music the participants will be able to communicate in other ways too than just by spoken language. The highlight of the project is to create a flashmob together and bring it to the streets of the hosting city. The young people will have a major part in planning and running the workshops and the activities during the youth exchange. We believe the project can change attitudes of the participants and influence the local communities. If the participants can work through their prejudice and tear down stereotypes between North and East it can help them develop new point of views that will change their attitudes to be more tolerant towards people from different backgrounds. The project will make the participants take responsibility and become more proactive. The project will give the young people tools to build up their confidence and entrepreneur skills in intercultural environment. Via blog, social media and video material we will spread our message for communities on a wider scale. We hope we can build up networks between North and East Europe.
