Intercultural dialogue - West and East

Although Europe is becoming increasingly multicultural, people still retain negative stereotypes and prejudices towards other cultures. Arab world, culture and Islam seems for Europeans as a threat to their national identity, cultural values and sometimes even to the security of their countries. On the other hand Arabs have very distorted image about Europeans and Western culture. People lack understanding about each other. This project will encourage dialogue between two very different cultures – Lithuanian and Jordanian. Volunteers will do daily work hand in hand with local volunteers and community and will be able to learn its traditions and culture and later share their experience back in Lithuania with their peers. Also this project will develop cooperation between organizations from Middle East and Europe and enhance youth mobility in Lithuania by providing European Voluntary Service in another country. During long term EVS project one of volunteers will make regular activities in Palestinian refugee camps, the other one will focus her activities on youth active participation, especially developing youth debating skills of Jordanian youth. The volunteer in Palestinian refugee camp will lead sport activities for women and girls and develop and lead sport activities for kids in refugee camp and poor areas of Amman. Also she will promote EVS and Erasmus+ program to youth in Jordan and establish new cooperation with other organizations from Europe and Arab countries. Moreover she will take active part in Arabic lessons and do self study. Another volunteer will assist in developing cultural exchange programs and projects, organize cultural background presentations and interaction events for Jordanian and European youth in Jordan. Also she will experience Jordan in touristic-cultural and cultural-familial visits. One of her activities will be to establish the volunteers exchange program (EVS) in Debate Foundation. Both volunteers will realize activities which primary objective will be to develop individuals' personal and professional skills. Project is designed to use non-formal education methods. This method will be used in trainings for volunteer and in daily activities. For carrying out the results of the project one of the tasks for volunteers will be to contribute with articles for blog - http://evsjordan.wordpress.com. Also, volunteers will organizes EVS' evenings where they will speak about EVS and their experience in general. Volunteers will also make a product (video, documentary, photography exhibition, etc.) about their experience and interaction with Jordan. The product will be presented for the youth and in Jordan and in Lithuania. The project will have impact for all participating parts and long time benefits in national and European levels. Volunteers will have opportunity to develop their personal and professions skills; explore new culture and change their attitudes towards different lifestyles. Also it will allow volunteers to look for a new carrier perspectives. Participating organizations will gain good project experience and trustable partner in future. The big significant impact will be on the Debate club. Volunteer will develop EVS and cultural exchange program for the club what it will be able to use after volunteer's departure. Youth and children who will participate in both volunteers' organized activities will gain new skills and new knowledge. They will also learn more about different culture. Local community will benefit from more educated and active youth. Moreover volunteers will develop initiatives what will be realized in national level, their projects will allow develop long term cooperation between organizations from Europe and Middle East. Project will also encourage participants understanding of European citizenship and understanding of multiculturalism.
