Interactive, Multimedia Online e-Learning in Fashion and Clothing

In an effort to maintain and enhance technical and product development skills in the European fashion/clothing industry, the project will develop and introduce digital course material for vocational training in this field, in three European countries. The project, TELESTIA II, is closely related to two previously funded Leonardo projects, namely TELESTIA I and ARACHNE, which developed Open and Distance Learning tools for trainees in the fashion industry. TELESTIA II broadens the scope of these projects in relation to its’ specific course content and is targeted at young designers and technicians entering the fashion/clothing industry. Course content will focus on three modules: use and best practice in basic sewing techniques, making-up and finishing garment samples and preparation of the product development design process. Training material will be collected by the project partners and will identify 'best practice' in the three module areas. In-depth and flexible training, in both theoretical and practical skills, will be offered through the modules. Courses will be delivered as e-learning material and will be available either online or offline (via CD-Rom). A 'tool kit' and manuals will accompany the e-learning material which will be designed to be delivered as self-training and as on-the-job training. Self-assessment procedures will be inserted into the modules as an aid for users to monitor their skills levels and as a means of standardising skills acquisition. The validity of the course content and its’ delivery modes will be tested with selected groups of students whose comments will inform any changes. Project partners will ensure the project's presence at fashion/clothing industry events in an effort to maximise the dissemination process and to exploit the potential commercialisation of the end product. Course accreditation will also be explored with the aim of developing a recognisable EU qualification.
