Interactive media for "interactive" teaching and learning
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The "Hauptschule" (Secondary school) Neukirchen an der Vöckla has been transformed into a "Neue Mittelschule" (New Middle School = this meant the abolishment of 'ability streaming groups'= Leistungsgruppen, in Maths, German and English) at the beginning of the school year 2013/14. Since the school's establishment it has a strong tendency for multicultural awareness and a large degree of empathy for students from various ethnic backgrounds. Any kind of experience the participants have through contact with teachers from other European countries, are without doubt contributing to a strong sense of allegiance to a common European community.Through this contact the students themselves also become more tolerant and respectful in their dealings with people from various cultural backgrounds. These attitudes serve the purpose of enabling the students to become successful, integrated European citizens. Additionally the students learn to manage electronic media more effectively, improving their self-determination and independence in their studies , create blogs in discussions, workshops and group work and round off their knowledge of social media. Both applicants have shown experience in the management of Comenius projects in previous years. Both participants are English teachers who are open and receptive to new developments, especially in the ICT-branch, the participants make an extra effort to remain at the cutting edge of computer technology at their school. Both participants have stayed in different countries abroad and are accordingly especially engaged in the promotion and implementation of CLIL. The following activities are planned: Introduction to teaching methodology with subsequent presentation and discussion of these themes. Active learning and project orientated learning will be taught as the principal focus. The creation of a webquest with a subsequent presentation of the project, the introduction of the basic skills of film making , the production of film projects as well as social media in teaching and the creation of blogs will be discussed in the ensuing workshop. The participant should be able to obtain higher professional competences from this advanced training course, which means, a more motivated approach in teaching will be provided and as well a better classroom environment can be achieved. A more confident handling with the new electronic media is the final aim. It is very important to share the learned skills the participant acquires with the colleagues in school, who will be encouraged and motivated to master new effective, methodical skills in teaching, and further to reflect on it and to plan for the future. The long term goal should be to equip our students with skills and abilities which they require in their later life in order to become successful , integrated European citizens.
