inter-Generational European Memories
End date: Aug 23, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The idea of the project “inter-Generational European Memories (GEM)” attempted to gather together memories of seniors from the participating countries regarding people, places and events which are important for the wider local community. These activities were been focused on 3 areas of interest: the systematic elaboration and preservation of the parts of seniors’ memories (MEMORIES), transmission of the knowledge (courses of ICT and/ or language - ACTIVE AGEING) and indication of the plane of inter-generational dialogue (SOLIDARITY BETWEEN GENERATIONS). Both traditional and innovative forms of working with seniors were used. Elderly students, who hadn't known how to use computers or who hadn't spoken English well enough to communicate, could achieve adequate computer or language skills, so that they would be able to continue learning without a tutor and they broke psychological barriers. During the meetings we intended to learn much more about the host organization, the culture of the country and the visited city. The Project website was used for presentation of the gathered experiences, being common for all the involved countries. Every partner shared his/her experiences in English. In the project was conducted a research on seniors’ education process by using the biographical method. We created The Little Book of Memories as an effect of the project. During workshops of biography seniors prepared their biographies which included education, love, job etc. The Little Book of Memories includes 60 stories from Austia, Italy, France, Turkey, Poland and Spain. The life stories of seniors show the differences and similarities concerning: values, opinions, culture, history etc. On base of biographies was conducted research by using qualitative analyse of content. The final effect of project GEM was the international scientific conference at which were presented details of the project, “Little memory book” and results of research.
