INTENT - Intercultural competences and development for new target groups
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Feb 28, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

BUPNET has carried out many training courses at local and regional level that have been funded primarily by the German ESF. Up to now, the staff members involved in this type of courses have not worked in a European context and have a great need for developing new competences that would enable them to become involved in the development and provision of European and international courses. Moreover, there is a great interest to expand our local offers to new target groups – among which refugees and professionals who work with them. Due to the fact that most staff members cover multiple roles, it is rather difficult to define clear profiles. Thus, we have identified fields of activities within our organisation and identified the respective learning needs as follows: - course developers and managers: need language skills, adequate new teaching and training methods, intercultural competences, innovative approaches to evaluation, - administration: needs intercultural skills to deal with people from different cultural backgrounds, problem solving and conflict management, networking competences to liaise with various local and regional stakeholders; - ICT developers: need to update their competences and skills on new ways of learning and training provision, latest security issues, e-learning solutions; - trainers, coaches, mentors: need basic knowledge of legal concepts and main regulatory issues related to migration, skills to interact with people of different minorities, problem solving techniques, conflict management, intercultural trainer competences, assessment and recognition of competences, pedagogical approaches to work with disadvantaged groups, and valorisation of competences acquired in a non formal and informal context, networking competences to liase with various local and regional stakeholders; - management: knowledge of legal concepts and main regulatory issues related to migration, assessment and recognition of competences, pedagogical approaches to work with disadvantaged groups, and valorisation of competences acquired in a non formal and informal context, networking competences to liaise with various local and regional stakeholders. The envisaged learning activities will involve 19 participants and will include short term training events as well as 1-2-month job shadowing activities. The activities will primarily focus on enhancing the competences that are necessary in order to deal proficiently with culturally diverse target groups. Competences to be enhanced include language skills, intercultural awareness and communication, as well as specific teaching and training techniques that would meet the needs of these different target groups. A number of events that seem very appropriate for enhancing these competences have been identified. These include courses on methods and tips for integrating ICT and new technologies into existing learning offers for diverse target groups as well as courses on multiculturalism, intercultural conflict management, managing cross cultural issues, best practice examples to fight against racism, prejudice and discrimination, and tips and methods to teach in multicultural classes. The job shadowing activities will contribute to learning from practice about methods on how to deal with interculturally different groups with special focus on migrants and refugees, as well as on how to network with different actors involved in this field. All events will be planned and carried out like an individual learning project; learning outcomes will be validated by means of our validation system LEVEL5: Each participant will reflect individually on the competences that he/she wants to improve, the learning activities, and the learning outcomes. The learning project description will serve at the same time as learning agreement to make learning conscious and thus more meaningful and effective. The impact of each learning activity will be eventually evidenced by means of the LEVEL5 cube that visualises the competence development for the selected competence(s). An exchange among team members on their experience will be promoted by means of regular team meetings. The desired impact of the learning activities at local and regional level is that BUPNET becomes one of the key players when it comes to providing training offers and services for professionals and volunteering that work with different ethnic groups as well as providing culture responsive training and coaching offers and services for people with migration background / refugees. At international level, BUNET wants to expand its activities and offer courses for educational professionals in all fields. BUPNET intends to expand its portfolio of activities. Its vision is to become a course provider with an international outreach, interculturally aware and responsive to interculturally diverse target groups, among which refugees and people with migration background.
