Integration pour la tolerance
Start date: May 2, 2016, End date: May 1, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Morocco is a country that, due to its proximity to Europe, it's often named "The door to Europe". Its proximity to European countries, its attractive because of its stability comparing to other Arab countries, its tolerance and level of development, are key factors that make of Morocco a country where a lot of immigrants come to live or, in some cases, get stuck in bad living conditions trying to reach Europe. The situation of immigrants and refugees coming from sub-saharan Africa and from some middle east countries, it's now a common concern not only in Morocco but also in the international scenario. Urgent measures need to be taken under human rights perspective.Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the country to get immigrants integrated, sometimes Moroccans adopt a discriminating attitude towards them, that manifests itself in ads featuring maids that are “sub-Saharan” or by insults thrown on the fly in the street. Violent situations have taken place, as in in September 2014, when a Senegalese man got killed in Tangier by several Moroccans. After discussing several ways of collaboration with CSM, our partner Moroccan organization, we arrived to the conclusion that these ways of discrimination exist also in Europe, specially after all this situation of massive immigration from Sub-Sahara areas and refugees, so we believe that we should start raising awareness among young people with the humanitarian dimension that requires adopting the universal conception of human rights. Our organization, in partnership with CSM, wants to carry out this EVS project to share good practices, to have immigrants, Moroccans and Europeans working together. CSM is currently carrying out projects for immigrants integration in society but this time, taking the opportunity that an EVS project can give, will also gather Moroccans with less opportunities together with sub-saharans and refugees in formal and non formal education, trying to build up a tolerant society while promoting and learn from European values that the EVS volunteers will bring, exchanging experiences in our working spheres. All together, we will work for the integration of Moroccans and immigrants, helping them to take the first step into our society, as they can see how similar their situations can be. The volunteers will support those activities, in a way that they will grow up their personalities in tolerance, learning from such an intercultural environment, which will open their minds, not only because they will be living in an Arabic, Muslim country but also because they will develop this necessary values to coexist in a world that is getting more and more complicated due not only to the immigration from the south of the world coming to the north looking for better life opportunities but also to the wars happening in the middle east, that make local people run off their homes. Misunderstandings, lack of information and generalizations will keep fomenting pain and wars. That’s the main reason why we believe in the intercultural exchange that inherits this project: to mitigate mutual fear and hatred as the global scenario is getting filled up with islamophobia. The french youngsters will build up a team work with our local young people, mutually developing various competencies, including non-formal education, intercultural sensitivity which will lead to tolerance and mutual understanding. Those activities will raise the European values and intercultural awareness, as we will make sure that we promote the project and spread the word, doing multicultural public events. This way, the sole presence of EVS volunteers will support the development of the young people of Morocco with European values and let them know about erasmus plus opportunities to motivate them to try and participate in them in the future.
