"Integration durch Bildung - Bildung ermöglicht Integration" Mehrsprachige Bildungsvermittlung an der Berliner Grundschule
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

In our primary school, we focus on a cosmopolitan, tolerant and culturally diverse education.A major goal of our education program is learning languages. The program includes early English from Class 1, the profile courses "London trip"and from this school year "Class trip to Sweden for class 6",as well as the planned bilingual profile course at secondary level 1.The theoretical teaching English in class 6 is complemented by a trip to London and Sweden. Main priorities are expanding the linguistic competence, tolerance towards other cultures, applying what has been learned and the recognition of the European idea.A further step of the implementation of our school program in English isthe continuous advanced training of teachers of our school. The constant expanding of knowledge, admitting to changing structures in education and the implementation in everyday school life is very important at our school. In summer holidays 2016, 3 teachers who teach in various grades will participate in training courses in Ireland and thus learning new teaching and learning methods for the primary school, establish contacts with potential partner schools in Europeand expand their knowledge in media (working with smart boards, tablets, Computer). Long term they should perceive multipliers functions, instruct and motivate other colleagues and promote the extension of the school program. The possibility of European education should be an integral part of our school and should have a positive impact on other schools in Berlin. The principle of lifelong learning in an open, intercultural Europe with diverse opportunities of each student and teacher is intended to be showed clearly. Integrated workshops shall attend to the current European changes (integration of refugees in the field of education - here: primary school). The English language will be an important component in teaching refugee children and in communicating with their parents. The teachers who attend our workshops will receive a wide range of content for language learningand the acquisition of new skills in dealing with new media. This includes the possibility of exchange with colleagues from Europe. The plan is to build a network with other schools in Europe and facilitate friendships between students and teachers. The communication shall be done via e-Twinning to provide students with a secure network for building contacts with students from other countries. The results of the training will be presented at conferences (General Conference, Symposium). The exchange and the growing importance at the school is considered as sustainable scale of development of language and learning language. The courses allow the use of new teaching and learning methods as well as modern communication facilities (eg e-Twinning, social networks) in language learning with positive influences on other subjects. The handling and use of modern media in foreign language classes (computer, smart board, video, etc.) will be explained in the courses. This has an sustainable positive impact (motivation, active language skills, applicable knowledge) on the individual learning of English, which gives students communicative benefits in foreign languages during the transition to class 7.Whith these activities we support the European educational guidelines. In Profile Course 5/6 content should be mediated bilingual and additional teachers shall be motivated by the experiences of the educated teachers to execute their courses bilingual too.Our three motivated teachers are teaching in all grades of our school, therefore a wide diversification of there experience is ensured, from all classes of early English to transition into the secondary schools. A portfolio with the results of the training courses will be created and published to the school committees and on the website of the school.
