Integrating all students in a school environment of security, respect and equity via ICT facilitators and digital classroom management.
Start date: Jun 1, 2016,
End date: May 31, 2017
Our school unit, in respect with the rapid global change of educational trends, on the one hand, and with the appreciation of the particular needs of the organisation on the other hand, focuses on teachers' training through Erasmus +.Erasmus + School Education Staff Mobility Training projects offer a significant opportunity for our school to broaden its European profile and bring fresh ideas for teachers to interpret in everyday schooling. The rapid technological change in education, on one hand, and the demographic picture of the students at our school, on the other hand, are the main reasons for actuating us towards to apply for training courses. Analyzing the needs of the particular school it came out as an urgent need to turn to enhance ICT and intercultural education. The project's title "Intergrating students in a school environment of security, respect and equity via ICT facilitators and digital classroom management" shows by its own the two main needs of the school, ICT skills empowerment and development of strategies to confront the new status of school. This status is characterized by diverse student groups - mixed ability, different nationalities, different religions, newcomers from various parts of the world, low socioeconomic backgrounds. This new picture of the school has been recently shaped by the new demographic picture of the inner city of Lemesos where the school stands. Consequently teachers were not prepared to cope with the new situation and a need for training occurred. The needs of the school were discussed in a staff meeting in September and decisions were accordingly taken on the development plan shaping the school's long-term vision. We need a digitally oriented school which simultaneously will be providing a safe, respectful learning environment for all its diverse student groups. We aim to: - improve learning/teaching performance through ICT and intercultural issues - increase teachers' self-esteem and self-empowerment in ICT and intercultural issues- eliminate early school leaving especially by minorities and immigrants- improve foreign language competences- enhance intercultural awareness- motivate teachers' active participation in society- increase willingness for participating in training courses in the future- strengthen school's European identity All the above are expected to act in favor of students improvement, participants professional support and organisation's European quality dimension. The school aims to train as many teachers as possible. Thirteen teachers out of eighteen have expressed interest for attending training courses but which of them are going to attend the courses will be decided early in September 2016 after the final appointment of teachers to school through several selection criteria (level of ICT skills, previous experience, English language speaking and writing level etc.). However, knowledge will be shared among all staff and be disseminated to even more persons through planned activities. The selection of the training institutions was carefully enacted in order to combine quality courses, value of money and be spread in various countries of Europe (Italy, Romania, Czech Republic, see part O, Annexes ) during the whole school year.We strongly believe that participating in the selected training courses will have a positive and long-lasting impact on students, teachers, school, parents and community. It will bring the school unit some steps forward, towards fulfilling the school vision. It will also offer attractive opportunities to get closer to European quality education.
