Integración multicultural y abandono escolar: retos de la política educativa europea

The aims of our project have to do with the particular needs of our school center: the education in multicultural contexts and the risk of social exclusion. To do so, we have departed from three fundamental axes that, attending to our direct needs, justify simultaneously the establishment of our aims. First, we have single out the relation between school failure and the major risk of social exclusion. In this respect, the lack of social and cultural integration due to the early school leaving can be the favorable environment of antisocial conducts that could derive in a major vulnerability towards the ideological extremism. Secondly, we have been always conscious of the need to link the educational local action in our more immediate environment with educational global policies that define the European community: education in the freedom and the respect to the difference, construction of a democratic citizenship, etc. Finally, as teachers in our particular and European context, we are mostly concerned about the need to understand the education from a wider perspective that would embrace the sociocultural realm in tune with the transformations that our European society experiences: internationalization, attention to the needs that there claims the multiculturalidad, need of update of the pedagogy, etc.On this ground, we have defined a few aims that look for a major cohesion of our labor with the social environment in the one that places the center. The learning strategies to approach and to manage multiculturality; the priority incorporation of the inclusiveness both in the school management and in the educational practice; the search of an international conscience of the educational work in our center; the improvement of the motivation among teachers and pupils; the search of strategies that turn more fluid the communication between the school and the families. As a last goal, we aim at the formation of our strudents in the civil values of the democracy, the freedom and the major respect towards the cultural differences, which so many conflicts produce so much in our local context as to in an Eruopean level.These aims will be set through activities of formation /training that qualify the teachers to work out of wider perspectives that may include cultural difference and the problems of social integration through education. We are seaching for more conscious professionals of their social labor and of the formative, personal and social implications of their educational activity, who know well the situation of our school and feel interest to update their beliefs and practices. Thus, we have elaborated a wide range of formative activities that range from the theoretical formation with courses on prevention of the school leaving and the strategies to confront the challenges of the multiculturalidad; up to stages abroad to realize " job shadowing " in countries with a historical career in the immigrants' incorporation: France, United Kingdom and Belgium.On the other hand, we claim that our project takes shape giving a direction to our school. To do so, practices have to be transformed, cultural prejudices have equally to be knocked down, and all the members of the ecudational community should be involved beyond the classrooms. In this respect, we have thought of strategies of diffusion that might multiply the impact of the results in pupils, with the modernization of the educational practice; in the families, with a major attention and disposition for the communication; in the companions of work, with informative chats where to be able to update their beliefs and increase their motivation and predisposition towards the attention of the multiculturality In public instituciones, with publications in press and mass media; in the educational community of national area, with publications in pedagogic magazines and concession of interviews, etc.To sum up, our project addresses to needs that we feel in a local level, yet they are current issues to the EU. The policies of integration and social cohesion, as well as the democratic process cannot be understood without an instrument as valuable as the education for the social transformation. Our work compromises itself with these values of the public universal education in order to construc a freer an more democratic Europe from our more immediate context.
