Inspiring Outdoor Learning - a vision for Schools in South Wales
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This 2 year ambitious project is the first of its kind to be run across our regions. 15 Schools across 6 local authorities will come together to reach a common goal, improving the quality of teaching methodologies when delivering the Forest Schools programme in Wales. With a focus on ethos, teacher competences and inspirational delivery of cross-curricular subjects including Literacy and Numeracy teachers will form a regional network and take part in a series of targeted training programmes in Denmark and Iceland. Participating teachers will come to the project with a wide range of skills in delivering outdoor learning but all recognise that much needs to be done to ensure quality teaching and consistent approach and to raise standards amongst young learners. The participating schools have been divided into groups according to their need, however, teachers from each school will disseminate the results from their training to the wider group during network meetings. Therefore, all teachers will benefit from the competences and skills learned from every training session. Teaching materials and ideas for developing approaches to outdoor learning will be developed throughout the life of the project within each school. These will be shared widely, not only within the network but to other professionals locally, regionally and nationally during dissemination and multiplier events. Our overarching objective is to develop a sound base of highly skilled professionals offering a model for outdoor learning and Forest Schools.
