Primary school with nursery school Rakovec nad Ondavou is a fully organized nine-year primary school. Our school educational programme is directed towards the teaching of foreign languages and Science subjects . The pupils achieve outstanding results in knowledge and sport competitions. The school participates in differentnational and international projects. The objectives of the project entitled „Innovative Teaching Methods at the Primary school“ are: - to support the professional development of those who work in education - innovation and enhancement of the full range of vocational competences in the area of foreign language education and training of our teaching staff - improvement of ISCED 1 and ISCED 2 teachersʼ language competences which are necessary for obtaining new information for their lessons and the use of ICT - observation period abroad in a partner school will provide enrichment and exchange of practical experiences and knowledge The target group is teaching staff of our school. It specifically includes 12 participants for Activity No.1 and 12 participants for Activity No.2. Project participants consist of foreign language teachers (English, German and French) and teachers of other subjects. The selection of the participants was based on strategic plan of school development in accordance with equal opportunities for everyone. Activity No.1 – Staff training – Participation in structured courses/training events abroad The first objective of this activity is to innovate and improve teachersʼ vocational competencies in foreign language teaching which are necessary for transformation from traditional teaching methods into communicative approach where the student is at the forefront, not a teacher. It will ensure the improving our school quality as an institution that provides primary level of education. The second objective is improvement of ISCED 1 and ISCED 2 teachersʼ language competences which are necessary for obtaining new information for their lessons and the use of ICT. English and German language teachers will attend language courses which will focus on the methodology of teaching languages with the specification for ISCED 1 and ISCED 2. French language teacher will attend language course to improve her communicative competences. The other teachers will attend language courses to improve their language competences in English (4 participants) and in German language (2 participants). Activity No.2 – Job shadowing/observation period abroad in a partner school The objectives of this activity are: - to acquire information and overview about the most recent education strategies in the countries of the European Union and worldwide and to implement the best practice and experience from the global tendencies into the education and teaching practice of our school - to create a space for exchanging of new experiences and knowledge, related to realization of the project educational activities, with foreign partners - to implement acquired information and output products from classroom observations into teaching practice, management and administration of the primary school. The teachers and school leaders will visit educational institution in Turkey. They will focus on the methods of education for ISCED 1, aplication of the CLIL approach in teaching individual subjects, the methodology of language teaching, the management and administration of state school and its competitiveness in the system of educational institutions. ISCED 2 teachers will visit our partner school in Poland. They will focus on the CLIL approach and other unconventional methods of teaching concentrated on the priorities of the European union in the area of education. Expected outcomes of this project will be the language competences improvement of eight teachers in the English, German and French language. Particulary, it is mainly communicative competences which allow their additional education in the area of the global teaching tendencies and application of the method CLIL in the general and science subjects teaching at our school. In addition, next benefit will be the training in the foreign language methodology courses which four teachers will participate in. They will gain practical experiences and knowledge in language teaching. Moreover, all the project participants will learn new information about the foreign countries, their cultures and school educational systems. The outcome of the job shadowing will be observation of the teaching methods and their application in the teaching process at our school. In the long term benefits point of view, the target group is not only direct- teaching staff, but also indirect groups like the students and their parents which have positive impact in the teaching proces. We suppose that quality language education will increase the demand for foreing languages and this will be benefit not just for the school, but mainly for the students.
