Innovative Wege des Unterrichtens
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The BRG 14 is a school in the west of Vienna with about 930 students and over 100 teachers. In our classrooms we experience an increasing diversity of countries of origin, languages and lifestyles. To cope with this diversity our development plan is to find innovative ways of teaching, so we can reach all students no matter how different their talents are. Therefore, our teachers need to be professionalized. For this project nine teachers were selected to be participants in courses with three key aspects: innovative ways of using ICT, creative methods without computer support and activities to improve social competence. All participants are leaders of a class team and have a special interest not only to improve the intellectual competences of their students, but also to create a positive atmosphere in the classes. The teachers represent a great variety of subjects so there can be effects of multiplication within the subject teams. The courses for this project were chosen according to our development plan. Especially when it comes to using computers accurately and creatively in our laptop classes there is a need of improvement. For language classes the chosen courses promise innovative ways on how to motivate students to speak in foreign languages. In addition, we chose a training for outdoor education and for intercultural learning to help our students develop their social skills. As these activities are going to improve the quality of teaching the headmaster supports this project completely. There have been some European cooperation projects and teacher’s trainings in the last years because of the great interest of teachers, students and parents. We want to support this interest. Our students are going to benefit not only from a higher quality in the classroom, but also from a more intense discussion of European topics.
