Innovative Praktiken im Bereich des allgemeinen und fachspezifischen Lesens im europäischen Vergleich
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The results of P.I.S.A show that there is need for action in Austrian schools regarding the acquisition of reading competences. Since the first research the situation has not improved in spite of an action plan set up by the ministry of education. The only success is the flattening of the declining curve. The initial teacher training as well as the in-service training must strongly focus on reading competence as a crucial part of education and a universal skill and must therefore provide efficient training in the field of didactics and methodology. School development requires more tools to assist schools with their developing process and in addition international best-practice examples have to be considered. Teaching staff on the other hand needs guidance in terms of critical self-evaluation, input regarding innovative methods and incentives for successful acting. That is why the Regional Schoolboard encourages teaching staff (primary and secondary education, teacher training) as well as inspectors to join this programme which offers the chance of an exchange of experiences with colleagues in Italy (South Tyrol) and Romania by job shadowing and visiting schools. Hereby the consortium follows the latest recommendation by the European commission to give the poor results particularly in reading a closer look and further evaluation. Our teaching experts, inspectors and advisers therefore act as scouts in this project. The other important aspect is the promotion of international dimension which acts as effective tool on all levels of education and helps to secure welfare in Europe.
