Innovative Practices in Biotourism (BIOTOURISM)

The primary goal of the project is to promote sustainable economic development in order to increase the standard of living and to facilitate cross border relations through the enhancement of the quality of tourism in the intervention areas. The project’s specific goals are: - The creation of a transboundary network of cooperation and the development of common transboundary tourist packages of added value.- The enhancement of the quality of tourism in the intervention areas with innovative practices in the fields of culture and the environment and with the interactive participation of all partners.- The participation of local authorities in high quality standards in tourism.- Τhe effective management of local human and natural resources, historic and traditional values, and ethnic diversity reflecting the needs of the area- The strengthening of networking and the creation of tourist packages boosting economic and social development on a transboundary as well as a local level. Emphasis will be given to the connection of tourism services with experiential learning, by combining volunteer work from cultural and environmental organisations in the intervention areas, with the entrepreneurship initiatives that will be developed. Expected Results: Direct and immediate effects of the project’s actions are: The network can be constantly operational through the use of the Internet Portal. The transfer of know-how & coordination among cooperating partners, organisations & local administrations for the development of quality sustainable tourism is also made possible. The network additionally guarantees the implementation of the project on a cross-border level, enabling joint approaches to common problems & opportunities.Local authorities can benefit from the project’s training seminars, which will promote green entrepreneurship in sustainable tourism and the enhancement of local community development and awareness of cultural, social & economic issues.Local exhibitions, meetings and other media events will motivate & raise public awareness on the advantages of sustainable tourism. Local communities and entrepreneurs from both countries can benefit from the people-to-people actions of the project, enhancing trust, cooperation & the building of synergies. The digital content to be developed and implemented through the internet portal, the electronic services (e-learning and self organisation tools) to be offered, & the transfer of know-how and expertise in sustainable tourism, can be made available to other regions of Greece and Albania, as well as to other EU countries.Through the organisation of seminars, networking and awareness raising activities, the promotion of entrepreneurship in sustainable tourism is made possible & sustainable local development in the cross-border area can be enhanced, bringing cross-border cooperation to a new level. Over the long-term, the project will help to: - Increase tourism influx - Capitalize on the experiences gained & lessons learned to enhance local environmental, social and economic conditions and improve the standard of living of the local communities - Reduce economic & social disparities in the cross-border area - Improve local sustainable development
