Innovation through Energy Psychology in Special Education (INEP)
Start date: Aug 16, 2014, End date: Aug 15, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The EEG St. Demetrios is a public, technical high school for children with special educational needs . The school has 20 teachers and 100 students . The students of the school are children with learning needs, such as attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity (ADHD), dyslexia, autism, syndrome Aspenger, children from institutions and children with serious socioeconomic problems affecting their learning. The EEG St. Demetrius, being a special school, faces the great challenge of integration of its students to the educational process and empowering them for their participation in the community in the future. The main problems, which the school faces, especially in today's socioeconomic situation, in conditions of economic crisis and growth of the rate of resignation and depression in the adult population, are: - Early school leaving. Due to the special character of the school, there is an increased dropout, compared to one of the general high schools, which in recent years has increased, due to the economic crisis. The dropout rate in recent years ranges between 10-15%. - Deviant behaviors. The conditions in the family and social environment (children of divorced families, unemployment, poverty, delinquency, addictions, mental illness) adversely affect children with disabilities, leading to increased violence and delinquency at school. The teachers in the school are required to manage these difficult situations in an ever changing context. The action plan foresees the mobility of twelve teachers to follow a 5-days training course offered by the educational institution Cervantes Training in Spain. The issue of training is "Energy Psychology in the classroom to reduce early school leaving" The expected learning outcomes address completely the training needs of the teachers: - Solve and reduce stress levels and develop the necessary abilities to manage emotions. - Create strategies on how to deal with and eliminate violent or aggressive behaviour. - Understand the causes of physical and mental health issues within the teaching profession. - Improve interpersonal relationships within the education environment. - Identify limiting and negative beliefs and transform them into positive and supporting ones - Learn a variety of tools and resources to apply in the classroom to create well-being - Reduce early school leaving The newly acquired knowledge and skills will be immediately implemented in the classroom. To multiply the impact, the teachers will develop a plan of action for school dropout prevention, with specific objectives, methodology and expected results. The implementation of the action plan will be monitored and evaluated within the context of the system of internal evaluation of the school.
