Innovation for Employment

To identify ways to improve poor employment outcomes for some of themost disadvantaged groups in the EU – young people living in the care ofthe state. Constant disruption in their lives due to poverty, neglect orabuse has left them unable to succeed. In each partner country thosewho leave care have fewer educational qualifications than their peers andlack the skills needed to sustain employment. To design, develop andtest an innovative approach to training and employment support for thisgroup. To develop: 1. An accredited social-emotional interpersonal skillstraining course for all partner countries. 2. A traineeship learningprogramme – in each individual country - to include trainee/workplacement projects for young people leaving care to develop skills whilstworking to empower their peers to participate in the services provided forthem. Work will focus on young people who are not in education,employment or training. They will be fully involved in design and deliveryof project work and be employed in the project team. Outputs: 1evaluated/accredited socio-emotional skills training course. 5employment skills support methodologies – one in each country. 5published reports on methodologies developed by each partner country 1final review report on the work of the project: new methodologiesdeveloped learning and recommendations for practice at national / EUlevels. Independent Evaluation Report on the partnership’s work againstinitial aims and objectives. A new ‘Euro-Learning’ section on theLeavingcare.org website – to record work and examples of effectivepractice. Publicity materials aimed at ensuring others are aware of thework and its results. All information will be available onwww.leavingcare.org in English and linked to partner organisation’s intheir home language. Impact: To provide partner countries / EU memberswith a better understanding of how to improve independence andemployment skills for young people to become socially and economicallyactive citizens. The methodologies developed will assist others workingwith these young people in a new and innovative way. The learning fromthe project will inform policy makers at all levels on effective policychange.
