Inklusion in Regelschulen und Kindergärten
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background: Last year the school took part in a project called "School Management" of the Bosch foundation. The admittance depended on the successful evaluation (Landesinstitut für Schulentwicklung) and successful projects in school development. We had coaching by professionals on how to start the process of inclusion in our town and our county on several levels. Our school takes part in an intensive team teaching project with a regular secondary school in our town and a trade school in our county. Futhermore our school is responsible for two classes in two different basic schools, where mentally challenged pupils are integrated in regular lessons. Aims of the project: The two candidates want to acquire special knowledge about the implementation of inclusion in Finland and evaluate the possibility for a successful implementation and adaptation in our region . Number and profile of the candidates: 1. The headmaster of the school is a teacher for pupils with mental handicaps and has a degree in paedagogics. She is also involved in advanced training for teachers (e.g. workshops for the teachers' association on mixed abilities and individualised learning) and in school supervision and mentoring. 2. The headmaster of the kindergarten for childeren with handicaps is a kindergarten teacher and a professional in social work management. She is also engaged in several initiatives in our county fostering innovation in early education. Description of actvities: Both of the candidates are engaged in different areas of school development. They participate often in advanced trainings on human resource development, school management, educational topics and inclusion. Intended results: We expect to acquire new ideas to implementate inclusion of mentally challenged children in schools and kindergartens. As there already has begun a fundamental policy change on the education of handicapped pupils in Baden-Württemberg, we the teachers and responsible professionals, hope to become acquainted with new approaches. To get to know a network of successful institutions in Finland who already practice inclusion will be of great benefit for the children, parents and teachers.
