INITIATIVE TO CREATE A NETWORK FOR PUBLIC ART PRODUCERS IN EUROPE
Start date: May 1, 2010,

We welcome the new approach at the European level to strengthen the support for cooperation and networking giving cultural actors more capacity to contribute actively to the development of the European society. This project proposal represents an initiative to create a network for public art producers in Europe. As cross border collaborations are becoming part of our practice, it has become crucial for our professional development to have a European meeting-point where we can exchange experiences and develop new working methods. Our grouping represents a new movement in the management of public art production - doing away with the old traditions and norms linked to the traditional view of public art historically tied to the constitution of the nation state. Our common strategy in the new economy is to abandon the idea of permanently commissioned public art to make way for artists to produce often more socially engaging and ephemeral works to encounter new audiences. Visual public art can provide citizens of all generations and backgrounds with opportunities to meet and explore the cultures of their European counterparts. This new type of public art works in the public sphere requires creative partnerships and innovation in the way we produce and distribute our work both at the national - local and regional - and European levels of society. The project proposal takes account of all three specific culture programme objectives as listed in the call. Our project will be looking at the access to public art for all and bring added value and a new perspective to the on-going debate on the European cultural agenda. The work programme is divided into three overlapping activities apart from the project management and dissemination: Activity 1: European Comparative Study; Activity 2: European Network Formation; and Activity 3: European Cultural Policy Symposium.
