INFORMED - INtegrated system FOR an advanced and lifelong training MEthodology of Dangerous goods drivers and trainers

The INFORMED project aims to develop both multimedia training tools and a training curriculum, for drivers and driving instructors, to help meet the requirements of European Directive EC 94/55 on safety in the transport of dangerous goods.Following an initial benchmarking of training needs and compliance assessment processes, the project will develop, test and introduce a series of training tools to include: a multimedia tool for advanced driving training and the advanced driving of vehicles carrying dangerous goods; tools for the training of trainers; an integrated training curricula for both drivers and driving instructors. The developed (modular) training tools will offer flexibility of learning scenarios, self-assessment and options for self-learning with on-line tutor support. All results will be tested on company-based trainers and with groups of drivers in all participating countries. Training tools and reports are initially expected to remain within the partnership but promotional materials will be disseminated through project leaflets and posters and via national seminars and a pan-European workshop. A CD-Rom containing information on project results will however be distributed to drivers, instructors and automobile clubs. A final cost-benefit analysis will be made public and will determine the longer-term marketing and commercialisation strategy to be pursued by a newly formed Pan-European Network comprising project partners and key actors in the field.
