Info-Inclusion for the Development of Educacional Action
The partnership is meant to provide a means through which info-exclusion can be fought. By info-exclusion, we mean the process whereby millions of people around the globe are being “left behind” because of being unable to deal with the information and communication technologies (ICTs). The aim implies the involvement of students in a project that values the social responsibility inherent to being at school, a project of civic education: they establish a training plan for parents and other adults who are in need of basic skills in ICT. The project involves social questions such as inter-generational solidarity, country development status, regional asymmetries, access to training and information, a citizen’s view towards their process of lifelong learning and, in tackling this problem together with our students, we wish to convey the message of a school that expands its influence towards the community in much more straightforward and inclusive terms than ever in the past. Concurrently with this, students have the opportunity to practice their English. One of the aims of the project is, in fact, the exchange of experiences between two countries (Portugal and Romania). Thus the project aims at better language skills (not only in a commonly-used European language, English, but also in other not-so-used languages - Romanian and Portuguese), greater computing efficiency (not only students' and teachers' but also parents') and better knowledge of both countries. The project involves four broad action branches:(1) In-class (mainly English) and school-wide debates meant to raise awareness of info-exclusion;(2) Use of ICT media to communicate in a foreign language with “distant neighbours”: online meetings; informal contacts; Ejournal; etwinning tools.(3) Intercultural dialogue and development of the knowledge and acceptance of “the other”;(4) a basic training plan for parents and other adults (mainly senior citizens) organised and put forward by students.
