Increasing the Use of Energy Wood and Assessing Environmental Impacts
Start date: Feb 12, 2007, End date: Dec 30, 2007 PROJECT  FINISHED

A study based on specific methodology will be conducted in course of the project. The purpose of the study is to find out the changes taken place among the heat producers using wood (stumps, logging waste) as raw material in the years 2003 †2006, the assess the changing of the capabilities of heat production and the changing of the rate of wood-based fuels in it. The study is directed to heat producers of small and medium size. It is necessary for getting information about regions experiencing problems: 1. there are sufficient wood resources in the region and the need to expand heat production; 2. there are no wood resources in the region or other fuels are used for heat production. Both heat producers and nearby forest owners will benefit from the results of the study to plan their economic activities and increase the use of wood as a renewing energy source in heat production. The results of the study will be connected with the practical experience and assessment of environmental influences of the Finnish partner. This enables to work out an optimal logical model for heat producers applicable in Estonia as well in Finland to better supply the heat producers with raw material and avoid thus the possible concurring negative environmental influences.
